How to apply

The Biobank's unique centralised application process enables researchers to specify the type of biospecimens and tumour type required from our inventory via direct communication with the Central Operations Applications and Database Manager.

Please see below for step-by-step instructions for our applicaton process:

Step 1:
Read and download the following documents:

Information on How to Apply and Conditions of Use (covers ethics approval, handling standards, supply of services and biospecimens, and reporting requirements)
Cost Recovery Schedule - email Caroline Drinkwater ( to estimate the cost of your application

Step 2:
Download the Application Form relevant to your application. Complete Part A and any other relevant form and submit electronically to the Applications and Database Manager.

Step 3:
The Biobank Access Committee will assess your application.  Depending on any further information being required, this process usually takes two weeks.   From time to time, unavoidable delays occur due to prior commitments that affect all committee members, for example reviewing NHMRC grant applications.  Every effort will be made to explain an expected delay at the time of application.

Step 4:

Upon approval of your application by our Access Committee, one of three agreements will be forwarded to you for signing.  This agreement will include all costs.  As soon as we receive the signed agreement your biospecimens will be prepared for dispatch and/or your prospective collection will commence.

Materials Transfer Agreement (MTA - for supply of biospecimens)

Service Agreement (SA - for supply of services to support research)

Multiple Institution Materials Transfer Agreement (if your application involves research across more than one institution).
