Our centralised application process streamlines access to biospecimens by researchers from the academic and industry sectors within Australia and internationally.
Researchers can specify the type of biospecimens and tumour type required from our extensive inventory and if unavailable, prospective collection can be arranged.
In addition, our ‘hub and spokes’ operational structure is ideally suited to supporting multi-site clinical trials or translational research projects. Skilled medical scientists ensure tissue and blood is collected and processed according to either our own protocols or study specific protocols.
The Biobank also offers services such as delivery of fresh tissue in appropriate media for researchers within the Melbourne area (and interstate).
See below for a snapshot of our biospecimens and services, or download our brochure
Information for Researchers and Clinicians.
"We appreciate the extra mile that VCB staff go to, to inform us of sample deliveries when they come out of hours. Also that they persevere to make sure they contact someone, by going down the list of contact numbers for a particular client. Much appreciated."
- Dr Caroline Gargett, Monash University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
“Serum and plasma specimens provided by the Victorian Cancer Biobank have been an integral part of our research efforts to develop a blood based diagnostic test for CRC.
- Dr Leah Cosgrove, Project Leader, CSIRO
"My research work involved developing fibroblast cultures from fresh biopsies. It was so valuable to obtain fresh breast and ovarian normal and cancer samples from VCB for my study. VCB staff are very helpful in all aspects. I have been very impressed by the high quality of the samples and professional service provided by VCB."
– Wen Qiu, Researcher at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
